Feeneys Buff Raku Trachyte clay was developed based on stoneware clays with large amount of refractory grog and crushed trachyte. It is a beautiful strong plastic body, suitable for hand building and sculpture. It’s quite coarse so not recommended for wheel throwing. Very highly speckled with trachyte and dark in colour when fired to stoneware. Note that cookies are recommended when firing to stoneware as the trachyte particles will stick to the kiln shelf.
A broad range of firing temperatures from 1000 – 1280oC
Mesh size: Mesh 14 – hammer milled
% Shrinkage wet to dry: 3.8
% Shrinkage wet to fired: 5.8 @ 1080oC and 7.6 @ 1280oC
Vitreous Temperature:Â >1320oC Orton Cone 11
