Stilt Star 10-4

Stilts are specifically designed to allow you to glaze the bottom of your ceramic pot and fire it in your kiln. The glazed pot rests on top of the metal points of the stilt in the kiln. The stilt elevates the pot so it is not in contact with the kiln shelf and therefore won’t stick to the shelf. The metal points on the stilt are in contact with the glazed piece but the stilt is easily removed and will not stick to the glaze. Care must be taken to avoid placing a very heavy pot on top of the stilts as this could result in the pot sinking slightly onto the stilts as the clay softens in the kiln firing. To avoid this we recommend spreading the weight of heavier pots over several stilt pieces.

The stilts that we sell at Pottery Supplies are manufactured by The Ceramic Shop in Pennsylvania, USA. All of the ceramic stilts that we sell from them can be fired up to cone 10. They are made of a strong refractory stoneware body and high-grade high temperature wire, so you can be assured that your stilts will hold up well through many firings.
