Colourful And Unique Surface Designs
Ceramic tissue transfers are an easy way to create your own colourful and unique surface designs on your clay pieces. Made by a screen printing process that uses ceramic pigments, ceramic tissue transfers come in a variety of designs and colours, some even creating a raised design on the finished surface. We also sell no print, plain tissue transfer paper so you can make your own unique designs. Alternatively, cut and apply multiple designs to create a mosaic effect.
So Easy To Apply
Ceramic tissue transfers can be applied to greenware (ideally dry greenware, but leather hard would also work, you just won’t need to use as much water) and bisqueware, over flat or slightly curved surfaces, and either directly onto clay or underglaze painted surfaces. Smooth clay bodies are recommended for best results. Similar to other underglaze products they can be fired to a broad temperature range from earthenware through to stoneware (cone 10), although some pink and purple colours may fade at higher temperatures. We recommend always testing your specific combination of clay body, temperature and glaze.
Applying ceramic tissue transfers are as simple as applying a child’s tattoo. Simply dampen the back of the transfer paper and press the printed side down on the surface you wish to decorate. Gently press the paper along the surface with your fingertips or a lightly dampened soft sponge to encourage the design to transfer across. After a few minutes carefully peel off a part of the paper to see if the pattern has transferred across. If it hasn’t, continue pressing gently and dampen the tissue a little more and repeat the process. Once you are satisfied, gently peel the paper off to reveal the pattern. Once dry, you could add embellishments to your surface.
If you are applying a clear glaze with a brush, use one with soft bristles and start by gently dabbing the first coat over the transfer pattern.
