This is a synthetic version of dolomite, meaning the blend is more consistent than what often was obtained from the natural source. Dolomite is a blend of roughly equal parts calcium and magnesium. It is used as a high temperature flux in glazes. Dolomite is also a key ingredient in ‘magnesia matte’ glazes. It reacts with silica and alumina to create soft, buttery or dry matte finishes.
